How to Survive Your Two Week Wait

two week wait

Ah, the two week wait – that exciting, suspenseful (and sometimes stressful) time between ovulation and the arrival of your period can seem really long. However, worrying about whether or not you might become pregnant during that time can make the two weeks drag on and on. That’s why we’ve put together some quick tips and best practices for making it through your two week wait and preparing yourself as best you can for potential pregnancy.

Here’s what we recommend.

6 Tips for Making the Most of the Two Week Wait

Plan future activities.

Waiting, waiting, and more waiting. Just the thought of waiting can drive you crazy! If you’re feeling bummed about not having a lot of control during this time, make plans for the future that you can look forward to. For example, if you love the beach, plan a quick weekend getaway with some friends. If your favorite band is coming to town, get tickets for yourself and your partner. Having future plans to look forward to can make the two week wait (and trying for a baby) seem much less daunting and stressful.

See your friends and family.

Pregnancy and having a baby can definitely change your life. So don’t forget to enjoy the time you’re in! Remind yourself that you’re surrounded by people you love who love you and make time to be with them. There’s nothing better than a relaxing day getting a massage or maybe a pedicure with one of your best friends. Let them tell you about their lives and provide you with some much needed distraction. It’s a good way to get out of your head.

Go on a spontaneous date.

Make the most of your “pre-baby” time by having a spontaneous lunch or dinner date with your partner. Perhaps there’s a new movie you both want to see – get in the car and go! After all, you’ve done all you can do to try and become pregnant. You might as well enjoy some much-needed fun!

Cut back on (or stop drinking) alcohol.

This could be the month you finally get a big, fat positive on your pregnancy test. Since you conceive before receiving that positive, it’s important to create the best environment you can for your baby. The two week wait is a good time to cut back on, or stop drinking alcohol completely. Because there is no guaranteed safe level of alcohol use at any time during pregnancy or when trying to get pregnant, it’s best to enjoy some “mocktails” instead.

Talk to your doctor about prenatal vitamins.

If you haven’t already, you should definitely talk to your doctor about taking prenatal vitamins while you’re trying to conceive. Studies have shown that taking prenatal vitamins before conception can help reduce the risk of neural tube defects and other developmental risks. So now’s a great time to set your body, and your baby, on the right track for optimum health.

Try a new hobby.

Another great way to pass the time while waiting to take a pregnancy test is to start a new hobby. Is there an instrument you’ve always wanted to learn? A painting class you want to take? Maybe even a course at a community college? Whatever it is that you’ve always wanted to do, now’s a good time. Hobbies are a great way to enrich your life, while also providing distraction from “the wait”.

Waiting to find out if you’re pregnant can be a crazy time.

Try to use these tips to make the most of your two week wait and relax. It’s normal to be filled with anticipation, but don’t forget that your life doesn’t stop when you’re trying to have a baby. So make plans with friends, enjoy time with your partner, and take care of yourself. After all, that’s the most important thing you can do!
